Dear Darling,
Happy day to you!
(p.s. If you are wondering who Elegant Evelyn is, you can check out last week’s post for the details. )
I was at hot yoga last week (6AM!) and I have to tell you I was pretty amazed at myself. I ALMOST finished a plank without splatting my tummy flat on the floor. One can only hope…
My niece is whipping me into shape. “NO MORE SKITTLES” “MORE WORKING OUT!” “QUIT WHINING”
Good golly! She is quite the drill sergeant wouldn’t you say?
Anywho… As it so often happens, things pop into my head while in the shower, driving, and now while sweating bullets and praying for child’s pose.
As I looked around the room, I was in awe of the different shapes and sizes of bodies. The cute brunette with the ponytail and Athleta gear was super slim… the guy to my left was most likely a biker with his shaved legs :)… and the woman in front of me who I was following because she was divinely skilled at the poses was what our culture would refer to as “overweight.”
It got me thinking about the time, energy, thinking, worrying, complaining, and judging we dish out when it comes to not only our bodies but other people’s bodies!
My cousin and her husband recently went on vacation. Apparently they made quite a long trek down to what they were told was a beautiful beach. Upon arriving, my cousin looked to her left and exclaimed, “I think that guy is naked!?!?”
By gosh he WAS! But what is one to do? So they settled in and took it in… all of it:) Did they follow the directive of “when in Rome…???” I am not sure and a lady would never ask.
All I can share is they left with the notion that this overwhelming cultural obsession with the physical body is not only silly, it’s a waste of time.
So here is my musing for the day…
Don’t let anyone (including yourself!) make you feel less than you are. Don’t you dare dim your light by hiding in frumpy clothes until you “lose the weight” or until you “can treat yourself.”
- You deserve to treat yourself now.
- To love yourself now.
- To care for yourself now.
You deserve to take the time to wear an outfit you love, put on makeup that lights you up, and to indulge in scrumptious self-care.
Remember… you can’t reach any goal or vision through hating on yourself.
So with that, I am off to drink my ginger turmeric tea with oat milk,… and nibble on ONLY A 1/3 of my Door County Cherry HandPie. Please don’t tell her….
Cheerio,
EE
