“It’s not so much knowing when to speak, when to pause.”
~Jack Benny

How often do we instantaneously react or make a choice without taking a moment to reflect? The way in which we use that tiny space in time between our thoughts and action really can influence our path in life, relationships, and state of mind.

Try a pause before reacting. These mantras may help:

I pause before reacting to someone who has hurt or angered me. I stand in my own power while refusing to feed the fire.

I pause before starting a new adventure, job, or relationship. I ask myself if this choice is bringing me short-term gratification or long-term fulfillment.

I pause before making choices about what I eat and drink. Is this truly what my body needs?

I pause before negatively and emotionally reacting to a stress trigger. I use this time to take several breaths and rise above the pettiness.

I pause before speaking my peace. I hold that precious moment to choose my words carefully ensuring I treat others with kindness while firmly adhering to my own boundaries.
