Daly Gem: Creating Your Own Karma

Every day we bring a certain vibration to the world. You might call it personal energy, attitude, or your approach to others. If you are curious about what you are bringing, pay attention to comments from others such as “you seem a bit off today” or ” you seem so relaxed” or “what are you doing? You look so happy.” Those are all indicators of the vibe you’re offering to everyone and everything around you.

A few years ago my Reiki Master talked about how she released alcohol as it lowered her vibration. She explained that it was her responsibility to bring her best self to the clients she served and without alcohol, she had a cleaner vibe and thus was able to show up in the sessions in a more powerful and meaningful way.

Just like her, we can get more intentional about how we are packaging ourselves up each day and how it affects not only our experiences but others as well. For me, when I have structure in place in the mornings it just sets the tone for the entire day. Rituals like meditation and writing seem to get me off on the right foot. I look at these as simple acts of self-care that help me get into the space where I am also able to support others through my work and my personal life.

Becoming more conscious of your personal energy also has a direct effect on the karma you create. We’ve all heard about karma and how it either comes back and lifts you up or bites you in the you know what.

Have you ever thought more granular when it comes to karma? What I mean is rather than just big decisions, actions, or choices affecting karma, maybe it’s is being created in every second and minute of the day?

Another way of looking at it is the idea of “reaction=reality.”

Let’s say you are on a work call and someone says something to trigger you. You have a thought about the comment and feelings arise and pretty soon you are bound to react. Your reaction in that little five second moment is incredibly powerful as it has the potential to create your reality/karma for the next hour, day or even week.

If you had done the work to set your personal energy that day by doing the meditation, exercise, or whatever morning rituals work for you, chances are your reaction will create positive karma for you.

If, however, you are rushed, frustrated, overwhelmed, undernourished, overstimulated and tired…chances are your reaction will probably create a not so great reality or “karma” for you throughout the rest of your day.

I know from recent experiences that when I do the things I need to set my personal energy for the day, I react in ways that allow me to have more peace and flow throughout the day. It’s not always perfect but on the whole I have less anxiety. On the flip side, when I am out of sorts, it’s like a ripple effect of mini dramas and disasters throughout the day in choices and reactions. My reaction to the “trigger moment” lingers on in my mind and the regret and rumination wheel begins to turn.

The great thing is, it’s a choice. You have the choice to do the things you know work for you in raising your personal energy. Your reaction? That’s a choice too. Both of these are within your power. The reality or karma is what flows naturally from our choices and reactions.

Most importantly, our choices and karma are what ultimately creates the community we live and work in. If you are troubled with what is going on in your home or your office, take a look first at what you are bringing to the table. Experiment with shifting your personal energy and see how it affects your choices and reactions throughout the day. These mini moments are what is creating the vibe and experiences each day for you and those you live and work with.

A great deal is out of our control these days so it’s even more critical to control what we can control. Try paying attention to the whispers that flutter through your mind today on what you deep down knows needs to change in order to claim the life and experiences you desire.
