Bumps In The Road

“Life is like a road. It has bumps, cracks and obstacles, but in the end, it gets you somewhere.”

~Author unknown

Recently, I was having lunch next to a darling man who was on the phone coaxing his wife to join him at the restaurant. I couldn’t help but listen and watch as the words he used, the tone of his voice, and the look on his face clearly showed how much he adored her. He hopped off the phone, looked directly at me, and pronounced proudly, “Sixty-one years! Sixty-one years we’ve been married! We’ve had some bumps along the way, that’s for sure! And believe me, when we hit those bumps, sometimes it took us awhile to get over them. But eventually and thankfully, we always did.”

I smiled, congratulated him, and said “yes, and some of those bumps are small and easy to deal with, while the bigger bumps you just don’t get over.” His response? “Honey, if you don’t have any big bumps you simply aren’t living!”

How true that is! Big bumps? Little bumps? At the end of the day, that’s life. Keep the faith. Persevere. Keep on truckin! Just when we think we can never forgive someone, move beyond a hand we are dealt, or leap forward from a difficult situation, the road rises up. What we see ahead of us is exactly where we are supposed to be.

Wishes to you for a smooth day!
