A Return to Correspondence

A Salon Devoted to Letters, Conversation, and Connection

A bespoke experience—part talk, part hands-on—thoughtfully tailored to your group.

The Invitation

In a world of constant texting, instant replies, and abbreviated exchanges, we are more connected than ever — and yet in many ways an underlying feeling of disconnection is pervasive.

A Return to Correspondence is an elegant talk and hands-on experience devoted to the art of the handwritten letter. Though we’re more connected than ever, an underlying disconnection remains, and this gathering is a chance to slow down and rediscover what it means to write with attention — why receiving a letter still carries such emotional weight, and how a little more presence changes everything.

It’s an invitation for guests to reconnect with intentional communication and rediscover the beauty of the written word.

What This Experience Offers

The Written Word as Presence

  • Handwritten letters as acts of attention and devotion
  • Why receiving a letter still carries emotional weight
  • Readings of beautiful historical letters, shared aloud together

The Language of Wax Seals

Sharing museum-quality seals by Kathryn Hastings, we explore:

  • the symbolism of seal shapes and imagery
  • the meaning of color
  • working with wax and seal stamps
  • Guests Are Invited To Bring Your Own Signature Wax seal stamp — the way you might have a signature scent or a favorite flower, consider bringing something that feels like your mark: a signet ring, a special coin, a small charm — anything with texture or shape that can press into warm wax and become your own signature seal

A Letter of Your Own

Guests are guided through the full art of letter-making, start to finish.

  • We begin with the letter itself, written by hand on bespoke stationery from Centralia Stationery Company — each sheet crafted one at a time on a press built in 1877.
  • From there, guests craft their own envelope, working with beautiful paper from Morris and Company.
  • Finally, each guest melts and pours their own wax, selecting a seal to press into it — a small, satisfying ceremony that closes the letter and marks it as truly their own.
