100 Days Of Hygge: Week 2

It’s been one full week since I checked in! I felt moving the blog to weekly vs. daily allows a fuller picture of how practicing Hygge can lift your energy as well as your sense of contentment.

Looking back over the past week, it’s interesting how much more intentional time becomes when you have a focal point of how you want to feel. Hygge is everything warm, inviting, and loving whether the topic is home decor or a simple dinner by candlelight.

It’s also been interesting to note the more you dive into this vibe, you find yourself leaning into a more gentle way of being. Just today, as I finished making my vegan BLT, I was startled at how I threw the items back in the fridge.

I stopped and thought, “well that isn’t creating a very good atmosphere (Principle #1)  in the fridge nor is it exhibiting “gratitude” (#5) for the wonderful food I am about to experience “pleasure” (#3) around!” 😅

A softer way of living goes even further into how I am speaking to myself and others which is creating more “harmony” (#6). Instead of beating myself up for making the wrong decision regarding some work on the house, I am chalking it up to a lesson learned about doing my homework before saying yes to a project. That in and of itself has allowed me to let go of guilt over wasted money AND releasing anger towards the person who did the work. 😩❤️

I participated in a holiday group class over the weekend which put me right into “presence” (#2). What a simple pleasure the space of quiet is. What a luxury to include sacred silence into your day.

During the class, the teacher asked what our intention was for the coming year.

I resisted the urge to “think”.

When I “think”, my mind comes up with all the things I subconsciously think I SHOULD do:

  • release weight
  • meditate
  • declutter
  • set boundaries
  • say “no”
  • be more patient

The list could go on and on.

But this time, I simply sat with as much of a blank mind as I could muster. Eventually the answer came through and it was… “strengthen my connection to source and the other side”

That was unexpected!

Yet when I thought about it after the class, this is exactly what makes my heart sing. It’s embedded in the work I do, how I live, and what my soul craves. And when I follow in that direction, most likely the “shoulds” will happen naturally.

Allowing in “presence” is a way of activating our own inner knowing/intuition. Presence allows us to walk a bit more softly in the world and practice the 10 Principles of Hygge in an organic vs.”to do/should” manner.

Since moving back to my hometown, opportunities to practice presence and the overall essence of Hygge have been flooding in like crazy! It seems every week I am either introduced to a new teacher, friend, class, or event.

It’s a beautiful reminder that if you are clear on how you want to spend time, doorways open whether you live in a big city or a small town.

I will end things with an absolute highlight of my week. Sitting in ceremony with my teacher and fellow sisters yesterday for Yule/Winter Solstice was such a treasure. For those of you who have attended my Sacred Ceremonies, it was a bit of what we do and more.

I will share one practice for those of you wanting to bring through more connection to yourself and others:

  • First fill a glass jar of water.
  • Hold the glass as you speak a question to an answer you seek. It might be around your work, a relationship or simply requesting a sign from a loved one who has journeyed home to the other side.
  • Place the jar of water in the freezer and don’t remove until frozen.
  • Find at least ten minutes of quiet time and a space where you won’t be interrupted.
  • Hold the glass of frozen water in your hands and gaze into the etchings on the ice. Resist the urge to think. Simply look, watch, and wait. You might be surprised at what images were created in that water after you spoke your intention to it.

If you happen to try this, I would love for you to reply to this email and share your findings… and I will share mine with you!

That is all for today my friends. Until next week…

Love,

Meg
