Hello and happy Friday the 13th!
Did you know that while many fear days like today due to misguided superstition, it is actually a magical and powerful day? It’s filled with feminine energy, introspection, creativity and a portal for transformation. Very exciting!
Also, be sure to read through to the end for my “Daly Gem” and a Simple Pleasure.”
I was out of town the past two days and have been looking forward to giving you an update on my Hygge experiment.
First off, it’s really interesting how much more intentional life becomes as I lean into the 10 Principles Of Hygge as well as the arrival of an expanded awareness on the expenditure of time, energy, and resources… and it’s not even a week 😅
As mentioned in my last blog entry, I was off to spend time with friends and I’d like to share a bit about how that went. Two days ago I thought I would be writing on any other principle than TRUCE but that is what evolved.
After a whirlwind day of catching up with good friends and running errands, it was a lovely evening of cooking my yummy enchiladas followed by snuggles on the couch in front of a roaring fire with the littles as we watched the heartwarming movie, That Christmas. Brian Cox from Succession is the voice over for Santa and I believe it was produced by the same people who created Love Actually and Four Weddings And A Funeral.
While watching this movie about loss, friendship, and community I found myself looking at my friend across the room and feeling some left over sadness from an argument we had last month.
As most arguments tend to be, it was regretful. We both were triggered, reacted, and left the situation crying and quite traumatized. This is someone I am close to and consider like family so it was very very upsetting.
A few days after the “incident”, we spoke and mended the fences yet I didn’t realize I still harbored sadness and embarrassment over my behavior. That is until I sat in the calmness of snow falling outside their window two nights ago in this idyllic scene out of a Hallmark Move 🍿
As the story unfolded in the movie and the kids did things kids do and say, I was reminded of the treasure that life is and how choosing gentleness over the “need to win” forever reigns supreme.
Later that night, I was still distracted with feelings of regret while I tossed and turned in bed. I replayed my words and behavior from last month over in my head as I tend to do when things aren’t fully tidied up so to speak.
On my drive home yesterday, I couldn’t focus on the podcast I was listening to so I simply grabbed my phone and left a long audio sharing my feelings with her instead of repeating them over and over in my head. What a novel idea! ❤️
I heard back from her right away and something lifted… and expanded. My regret lifted when I had shared my thoughts with her AND when I realized we had in fact weeks earlier on our “mend it up” phone call practiced the 8th Principle of Hygge which is TRUCE. Essentially this principle is the conscious decision to call an end to drama. Full stop.
Calling an end to drama, in my experience, is falling into the energy of “we all are doing the best we can.” Even more important is the reminder to stay in my own business rather than trying to change someone or make someone “wrong” in order for me to be “right”.
What expanded was the depth of our friendship. I can honestly say I feel safer with and closer to her than before. It was a valuable reminder that any type of discord is an invitation to step away from ongoing drama and into learning, growing, and strengthening what matters.
On my short but impactful journey thus far, I consider Day 4 to be the most meaningful.
TRUCE.
Love it.
Okay, so one a lighter note, it is SO cold here my eyelashes freeze when I take the dogs out… and I am LOVING it! We are in full on Hygge here with the weather!!
Now if only I could use my fireplace … more on that later once things get ironed out on that front. What I am craving in this particular situation is HARMONY but what I am experiencing is CHAOS!
So I suppose the lesson is to create as much harmony within myself and the energy will spill out to the crazy situation going on. Stay tuned!
I’ll end with today’s “Daly Gem” …
“Remember what matters in life because at the end all that matter is love.” ~ Yours Truly
Speaking of love, here is a simple pleasure for you to try out this weekend. It’s a Hummingbird Cake! I shared it with friends and received a thumbs up from everyone. Absolutely delicious and no you don’t feed it to the birds… it’s only for humans 😍
Until tomorrow…
Love,
Meg
P.S. Completely clueless on what Hygge is? If so, you can listen to my most recent podcast episode here to learn more.
