My Dear Hygge Friends,
So my first day ended in complete overwhelm!
(If you missed the kickoff to 100 Days Of Hygge, you can read yesterday’s post here which also includes the 10 Principles of Hygge)
Just lots of things converging and creating a bit of anxiety and extremely low levels of patience.
I had a few options…
- Grab a glass of wine.
- Yell at my dogs who were driving me crazy
- Beat myself up over not being perfect
- Numb out on tv
Normally these would be typical knee jerk reactions, but because I committed to this experiment (and I knew a report was in order today for you all)… I chose to tap into the 7th Principles which is COMFORT…so I went to bed.
Fresh sheets, essential oil diffuser, cozy pj’s, and a bit of catching up on social media (ok I can’t be perfect lol) and checking into a community I’m part of… then it was lights out.
Slept like a baby and woke up before the sun to dive into Day 2 where I practiced the 2nd & 3rd principles of PRESENCE and HARMONY.
Over the weekend I scheduled in self-care with one of the items being a Tai Chi class earlier this morning.
“At the heart of it, Tai Chi is a moving meditation in the form of a series of gentle exercises that create harmony between the mind and body. The ultimate purpose is to cultivate our inner life energy (qi) to flow smoothly and powerfully through the body. This is a spiritual experience, as much as a physical one.” ~Tai Chi For Health Institute
Now this is where it gets funny.
I was expecting a very Zen and chill environment like I’ve seen on Instagram of people in San Fransisco parks on a peaceful Sunday morning.
Not so much.
The instructor was a very exuberant and darling 20 something year old who couldn’t wait to get to the best part of the class… self defense.
I am not kidding.
After a few “slow” moves with breath work he started using analogies of punching someone or throwing them to the ground for the movements.
At one point I was thinking, “maybe I should just leave. my time is precious”… but then I tapped into the 8th and 9th Principles of TRUCE (aka: no drama) and TOGETHERNESS (aka: have some fun with others).
So glad I did because I was paired up with Noi who clearly knew her stuff. We practiced attacking each other and ended up as friends 🙂
Tonight I’ll practice one of my favorite principles, SHELTER. This is all about cultivating a space that feels in sync with who you are. Decorating magazines here I come!
See you tomorrow and remember to reply with any Hygge experiences you’re having.
Oh! And before I forget, our next Sacred Ceremony is ONLINE and coming up this Sunday morning at 9am CST. All the details are right here.
Love,
Meg
