Happy Monday
As I write to you, I’m captivated by the the sun rising over the river. The beauty of a new day where anything is possible. Where tiny and massive miracles are unfolding just for us.
Today is special as it the first of what I’m calling “100 Days of Hygge” (if you aren’t familiar with the term, you can listen to my most recent podcast episode here to learn more).
Like many others, the concept has intrigued me for years. Recently, during a walk in the forest, I was inspired to use the darkness of winter here in the Northern Hemisphere to immerse myself into a Hygge experiment
Ultimately, this adventure is meant to uncover the deeper impact of Hygge. How it affects happiness, shifting habits, and an overall sense of contentment.
Perhaps you’d like to join me?
Over the next 100 days on this blog, I’ll be sharing adventures, experiences, and simple ideas evoking the essence of this Danish term which describes the Scandinavian way of cozy living. It’s no wonder the Danes are said to be the happiest people on earth!
Hygge, however, goes much deeper than warm socks and a cup of tea by a roaring fire with a game of scrabble with loved ones. Below the surface lies a meaningful way of living. One that evokes a sincere sense of presence with yourself and others.
To initiate Day 1, below are the 10 Principles of Hygge….
- Atmosphere – Candlelight dinner anyone?
- Presence – Be here now
- Pleasure – Eat the cake
- Equality – We vs. Me
- Gratitude – A quick pick me up
- Harmony – Self care AND “Other care”
- Comfort – Queue the cozy socks and cocoa
- Truce – Goodbye drama
- Togetherness – Puzzles anyone?
- Shelter – Creating a sacred space
Each day I’ll share with you a recap from the previous day’s insight/experience/adventure as well as my plan for the upcoming day.
Please share insights and feedback as I’d love to know your experience of living this lifestyle whether you’ve been practicing it for years or if you are just beginning with me.
See you tomorrow!
